One time every month there is a Jackpot Battle in browser game Dark Orbit. Every person may join this battle if they are online at the time. This battle is a fight to death and the last spacecraft left still flying is the winning. So what does the player win? He doesn’t win money in the game but he actually wins real cash! Pretty awesome I think that you can actually win real money playing a game like Dark Orbit. He wins the same amount of real cash as he has accumulated of Jackpot dollars in the game.

The jackpot dollar battles take entries all during the week. They are usually held at Sunday afternoons from 2 pm to 10 pm server time. The players that have entered drop at random into various maps until all the maps has about 500 contestants. There are several round, and after each round the players that are left are put into new maps with 500 spacecrafts on each. The last 500 man match is call the death match and the winner here takes home the real cash!

I think the first ship you should start out buying is Venegance. It’s a pretty cheap ship but still a pretty good one. Also in the beginning it’s a good idea to do a lot of quests. This is more rewarding and also much more fun than just gathering raw materials in my opinioin. Gathering materials is ok too, but I prefer the quest route.

Start out with doing the best paying quests. You’ll need money to join a good clan as soon as possible. Keep doing the newest quests and level up. At level five or six there is a decent chance you’ll be invited into a clan. Some clans are really nice and help you with cash for an even better ship. Good luck.

Starting out in DarkOrbit I’d suggest focusing on making money the first couple of hours by destroying enemies. You want to earn credits in the beginning and spend all that you make on missiles and ammunition. Just buy a lot of it in the beginning so that you don’t have to worry about running out of this for a long time.

Also make sure your honor don’t go into negative. If you don’t know much about honor yet check out the post here on this site about honor. Basically if your honor goes into negative you won’t earn as much money for selling raw materials to your spacestation, which is not a good thing obviously.

You should also try to get familiar with the map, so that you don’t get lost, and pay attention to where your teams spacestation is. Also practice all the different controls so that you improve your skills for the PVP later on.

When you’ve spent a while gathering credits and buying ammunition and missiles you should start going after uridium. This is the elite currency in the game. You need this to buy the best items and ships in the game, as well as repairing your own ship. You get this by doing quests and killing enemies.

There are many types of bonuses and multipliers in Dark Orbit, and knowing how to get the most out of them is very usefull. You use these bonuses or multipliers when you go to the bank to buy for example uridium. I not a big buyer of anything in the bank really, I prefer to get the items in the game, but whenever I choose to buy from the bank I make sure I’m using a good multiplier.

The most well known of these bonuses is probably the happy hour. That is a special time period when you get double the normal amount when you buy something in the shop. The happy hours are announced on the logon splash screen, and it lasts like the name indicate for one hour. There is also the mega happy hour when you get 3x the amount when you buy something in the shop.

Another type of multiplier jo can get is the banking bonus. These are usually obtained during special events during Christmas and Easter, as well as other times during the year. These come in three different types, 2x, 3x and 4x bonuses. You can only have one of these at any given time, and you can only use it one time. You know that you have gotten one of these bonuses when the banking message flashes in the top left corner of your flight screen. Happy bonus hunting!

To join a Clan in Dark Orbit you have to have 50,000 credits for one, so if you’re broke, no clan for you. Getting the 50,000 credits isn’t really a problem though, it’s pretty easy to get, so there are other things to consider when you decide if you want to join a clan or not. If you’re an experienced player, you should probably wait till you find the type of clan that you’re looking for, since you already know the game well and probably won’t have much to learn from joining a clan right away. This post is more for new players though.

As a new player to Dark Orbit I think it’s a good idea to join a clan as soon as possible. It doesn’t have to be a large elite clan, you probably won’t get in to one of those anyways, but do try to find a clan that is active. It’s really nice to have some more experienced clan members to ask when there is something you can’t figure out in the game. Many clans are also don’t mind helping out new players with credits if they need that, but don’t go around begging for credits, that won’t make you popular and may lead to you being thrown out. Being member of a clan is really a nice social part of the game, and later in the game it’s a lot of fun fighting other players and NPCs together with other clan members.

In addition to levels in Dark Orbit there is also something called ranking. The ranks go from general all the way down to basic space pilot. There is only one general for each company in the game, so getting that rank is extremely possible. To get any of the top ranks in the game you have to be a really active player and highly skilled as well. It is also an advantage to be a member of an elite alliance of course. Here is the list of the different ranks and how many percentage of players get each rank.

1 General (max. 1 per company)

2 Basic General (0,01%)

3 Chief Colonel (0,10%)

4 Colonel (0,50 %)

5 Basic Colonel (1,00%)

6 Chief Major (1,50%)

7 Major (2,00%)

8 Basic Major (2,50%)

9 Chief Captain (3,00%)

10 Captain (3,50%)

11 Basic Captain (4,00%)

12 Chief Lieutenant (4,50%)

13 Lieutenant (5,00%)

14 Basic Lieutenant (6,00%)

15 Chief Sergeant (7,00%)

16 Sergeant (8,00%)

17 Basic Sergeant (9,00%)

18 Chief Space Pilot (10,0%)

19 Space Pilot (12,39%)

20 Basic Space Pilot (20,00%)

This list is from the English Dark Orbit forum, and one of the posts there explains the rank calculation formula. Basically each player gets a point value that is a sum of almost everything you’ve done in the game, like kills, quests, NPC kills, level, etc. All the points values are calculated daily and added to a list, and the list is devided up according to the guidelines above.
